The Meeting was called to order at 12:06 PM by President Bob Schmick. Bob greeted all in attendance and requested that attendees introduce themselves.
Minutes from the December 31, 2012 meeting were approved with a correction to the dates of the Washington, DC Club night walks. The correct months for the walks are April, May, June, August, and September.
Treasurer's Report: Treasurer Ken Wilson presented the monthly balance sheets for December, January, and February. The balance as of February 28th was $2,935.05. Ken mentioned he is on travel restrictions due to eye issues. Ken has requested copies of Club YRE brochures to assist with reports. He is still having trouble with the Capital One Bank account conversion.
Web: The MVA has paid for 5 years hosting of MVA Clubs.
AVA Convention: Bob holds proxies for most Clubs. Please give him any that are still needed, where a Club is not being represented at the Convention.
Facebook: Notify Linda Hassell of any special information to be placed on Facebook. The AVA now has a major presence on Facebook.. You can go on Facebook, and set up a "fan page", and simulate your own website.
AVA to the IVV Americas? The IVV is creating 3 divisions: European, Americas, and Asia. There will be a vote at the 2013 Convention. Bob feels it is too soon.NEW BUSINESS
Checkpoint: The most recent Checkpoint states that the Biennial Publicity Contest has a deadline of February 1, 2013. Email Chuck Blische at firstname.lastname@example.org with questions.
Long Distance Events/Event Stamps: Bob is opposed to changing the AVA policy for Long Distance Events to that of the IVV. He is also opposed to removing the year from the event stamps.
Convention Silent Auction: The Walter Reed Club has donated about 200 old awards, and 2 patch jackets for the auction.
YRE Event Boxes: Clubs should check their YRE boxes to make sure they are fully supplied. If stamps are included, make sure they are "Forever" stamps.
Legal Opinion: A legal opinion has been sent to the Clubs, but are not to be discussed.
Award: John Dye presented Rich Long with a plaque for 20 years of service to the Columbia Club, the Piedmont Pacers, and the former Chesapeake Bay Country Wanderers (CBCW). Rich maintained websites, served as Treasurer, newsletter editor, and working many events.
Next MVA Meeting: The next meeting will be Saturday, July 13, 2013 in Columbia, MD at a time to be determined.
Annapolis Amblers: The Amblers planned event in Heritage Harbor, Annapolis, MD was canceled. The future walk locations will be St. Michaels, MD on June 15; Annapolis Octoberfest September 22, and the Annapolis Boat Parade in Annapolis on December 14.
Baltimore Walking Club: The Club will hold events in Havre de Grace, MD on May 11, Baltimore, MD on October 5, and at Conowingo Dam on November 23.
Columbia: After today’s event, the Club will continue their summer series of parks walks in Clarksville, MD on June 8, Columbia on July 13, and Savage, MD on August 10. They will then hold an event in Ellicott City, MD on October 19.
Freestate: The Freestate Club reports that their Bowie YRE has been moved to the Starbucks in Bowie Town Center. They will hold events on May 25 in North Beach, MD, the annual 9/11 event at Montpelier Center in Laurel, MD on September 7, and Cambridge, MD on October 12.
Greenbelt: The Greenbelt Club has a walk scheduled at the Department of Agriculture Center in Beltsville on June 1. They also have an event scheduled for the College Park Airport on September 14.
Piedmont Pacers: The annual Augustoberfest in Hagerstown event will be held on August 24, Octoberfest in Frederick on September 28, and Sykesville (Piney Run) on November 3.
Potomac River Volksmarching Club: No Report.
Seneca Valley Sugarloafers: The Club’s annual Cherry Blossom Seasonal event is in progress until May 13. Their next weekend event will be April 27th in Rockville, MD. That will be followed by Kensington, MD on May 18, and then Rockville on July 27.
Washington DC: The DC Club will hold its first night walk of the summer on Monday, April 22nd. They will hold a regular event on Saturday, April 20 on a new trail in Alexandria. Then, they have an event scheduled for the Wilson Bridge in Alexandria, VA on September 21. The annual Scottish Parade walk is scheduled for December 7.
WorldWide Walking Club: No Report.
