The Meeting was called to order at 12:09 PM by President Bob Schmick

Bob greeted all in attendance.

REPORTS

Minutes from the April 21, 2012 meeting were approved with corrections to the spelling of the names of Jone Parr and Susan Osborn.

Treasurer's Report: Treasurer Ken Wilson presented the monthly balance sheets for April and May. The balance as of May 22nd was $2,326.09. The Treasurer’s Report was accepted.

Web: Jim McDonald reported that Club websites can be piggybacked on the MVA website. Each club will be kept private from the others. Clubs may contact Jim for needed assistance. Individual clubs are responsible for maintaining their portions of the website. Three clubs in the MVA will be affected in September by security issues on the AVA website...Baltimore, Freestate, and the Washington DC clubs.

OLD BUSINESS

Facebook: The attendees voted to continue supporting the MVA Meet-Up page. Linda Hassell runs a "Meet Up Page", for which the MVA reimburses her expense.

Audit of 2011: Interested persons may check with Rich Long.

NEW BUSINESS

a . Checkpoint: The most recent Checkpoint contains some NEC motions, for which Bob recommends voting "no."

b. A proposed AVA By-Law change would change the current 50% requirement for voting, to 67%.

c. Due to security issues, the AVA website will no longer support individual clubs. Three MVA clubs are affected.

d. The next AVA Convention will be held from April 29 to May 3, 2013 in Orlando, FL at the airport Marriott.

e. We need a nominating committee for MVA elections on 12/31/12.

f. A candidate is needed for the next election of an Atlantic Region Director.

 

Next MVA Meeting: The next meeting will be October 13, 2012 at 1:00 pm at the Greenbelt walk in College Park..

CLUB REPORTS

Annapolis Amblers: The Amblers will hold two events in September. Mike Quinlan is organizing an event at Jug Bay on September 15th, and the annual Octoberfest event will held on Sunday September 23rd. The annual boat parade walk will be held December 8th.

Baltimore Walking Club: The BWC will have an event to Ft. McHenry on June 23rd as part of the 200th anniversary celebration of the War of 1812. Participants can expect the traffic to be bad for this event. They also have events scheduled at the Robert E. Lee Park on Oct. 20th, in Woodberry on November 3rd, and in Hampden on Dec. 28th.

Columbia: The Club will continue its series of walks in conjunction with the Howard County Rec and Parks group. Events will start at Nightmare Graphics, in Centennial Park in September, and in Patapsco Park on November 10th in the McKeldin Area. The annual Dye Haus walk will occur on Dec. 10th.

Freestate: Bob thanked all who participated in the Memorial Day Weekend events centered at Solomons Island. Their 9/11 walk will be held on Saturday, September 8th instead of their usual September 11th. They will also be holding their annual end of year walk on New Year’s Eve. They will have a Maryland heritage theme for events in 2013.

Greenbelt: Event at the College Park Airport in College Park on October 13th. The next MVA meeting will be held at this event.

Piedmont Pacers: The Piedmont Club reported a good turnout for their annual breakfast walk in Westminster. They have their annual Augustoberfest and Octoberfest walks planned for Hagerstown and Frederick respectively. They plan to change the routes for their YREs in 2013.

Potomac River Volksmarching Club: The Potomac Club has no events sanctioned for 2012. Skip is planning a 14 day trip to Europe in 2013 for all those who are interested.

Seneca Valley Sugarloafers: The Seneca Club has events scheduled for the Mormon Temple, Rockville on Oct 27th, and in Black Hill Regional Park on Nov. 17th. This is the Club’s 25th anniversary , and gifts are being given at all events.. A seasonal event will occur in Kensington from Dec 6th - 30th.

Washington DC: The DC Club will hold its usual evening walks prior to club meetings in June, August, and September. The Club is planning for something in the Fall, as well as the traditional December 1st Alexandria Scottish Walk.

WorldWide Walking Club: The WWW club has no events schedule in 2012.

The meeting was closed at 1:10 pm.
